Summer Placement Schemes
Summer placement scheme
The summer placement
scheme is a vital part of Hugh James’ recruitment process and is
our preferred route to a training contract.
The scheme provides a
unique insight into the life of a trainee at Hugh James.
In 2007 the scheme was
voted a LEX 100 Winner. It is very popular and competition for
places is fierce!
1) Who can apply?
- Second and third year law undergraduates
- CPE or GDL students (or its equivalent)
- LPC students
2) The selection process
- Apply online by 31st March.
- Selection by interview lasting no more than a quarter of an
hour.
- Interviews end of April/beginning of May
- Up to 24 candidates selected
- No need for successful candidates to apply separately for a
training contract
3) The scheme
- Runs from June to the end of August
- Based in Cardiff office
- Each candidate is given a mentor in each office - either a
second year trainee or a newly qualified solicitor
- The placement involves various legal tasks and, if possible,
attending client interviews or going to court
- On the final day of the placement, each candidate will attend a
45 minute interview with the Training Principal, the HR Director
and a Senior Partner to include a 10 minute presentation on a topic
that will be provided at the start of the two week placement.
- Candidates will be advised after the scheme finishes in August
as to whether or not they have been successful in securing a
training contract.
