James
Gibson, Solicitor:
The work life balance is important
at Hugh James. A nine-to-five day is rare but everyone is
encouraged to become involved in activities outside work. The
emphasis is very much on working effectively and efficiently rather
than staying late for appearances sake. Staff of all levels
get involved in after work get-togethers and there is definitely a
work hard/ play hard ethos. Complying with that usually means
mass migration of fee earners to Bar Copa at 6pm on a Friday
evening.
Jessica Blandford,
Solicitor:
Hugh James has a great work/life
balance. Realistically as a solicitor you’re going to have to
resign yourself to working long hours from time to time but
generally at Hugh James fee earners work sensible hours and have a
life outside work.
Lousha Bryl, Solicitor:
Hugh James is proud of its
work/life balance. Unnecessary hours are not part of the culture
here as you will get recognition for your ability rather than your
willingness to burn the midnight oil – focus on what you put into
the hours rather than the hours you put in. Additionally, the firm
places great importance on encouraging staff to socialise as this
fosters better working relationships, so if you like to work hard
and play hard, you will certainly fit in here.
