Hugh James Exchange

Millennium Stadium: A Business Beacon for Wales?

Thursday 1st October 2009

Celebrating its 10th Anniversary The Millennium Stadium has become an icon in Wales. The Hugh James Exchange asks — is it a business beacon for Wales?   What is the economic impact of public investment into new sports stadia and the hosting of major sporting events?

Does this cascade across the regional economy? Is sport helping Wales through recession? Are some regions benefiting from investment in sport more than others? These questions and many more were addressed on the evening.

The lively interactive event was attended by key personalities from the worlds of  sport and business. The packed Cardiff Arms Suite in the Millennium Stadium listened with interest to the opening address by our key note speaker is Roger Lewis, Group Chief Executive of Welsh Rugby Union.

Roger was joined on the panel by:

  • Mike Hall, Director of PMG Developments
  • Bill Savage, Chairman of Cardiff & Co
  • Rob Holt, Chief Executive of Ryder Cup Wales
  • Paul Russell, Chairman Glamorgan Cricket Club

Our compere for the evening was Noreen Bray, Chair of Good Relations Wales.
