Hugh James and Cardiff University Law School give talk on NHS Continuing Healthcare to celebrate National Pro Bono Week
07 | 11 | 2011
National Pro Bono Week takes
place this year from the 7-11 November. 2011 will be the tenth
annual celebration of free legal advice and representation by
solicitors, barristers and legal executives.
To celebrate, Hugh James solicitors
and Cardiff University Law School will
be delivering a talk on NHS Continuing Healthcare at the
University.
Since 2007, Hugh James has worked
with Cardiff University's Law School to develop a pro bono scheme
on NHS Continuing Healthcare. Cardiff Law School is the only Law
School in the UK to run a specialist legal advice clinic in this
area. The development has allowed for the provision of high-quality
pro bono services in an innovative and niche area of law practice,
which is not always serviced by legal aid.
The NHS Continuing Healthcare pro
bono scheme is now in it’s fifth year and as supervising
solicitors, Hugh James provide students with training and support
on the law, practice and procedure. We also supervise all work
undertaken by the team and offer underwriting legal advice.
To date over 700 students have
undertaken the training and approx 300 students have participated
in case work. The scheme is also supported by Age Cymru and the Alzheimer's Society.
