Older people across Wales
are set to benefit as Hugh James, and the newly merged charity of
Age Concern Cymru and Help the Aged in Wales have agreed to
undertake joint working throughout the spring of 2010.
As part of the
relationship Hugh James will help raise vital funds and provide
support to a number of the charity’s projects. However, the
relationship will also enable the two organisations to combine
their expertise and develop a body of knowledge and understanding
about some of the main legal issues currently facing older people
in Wales.
Hugh James has recently
been at the forefront in helping older people and their families
claim back fees that they need not have paid for various continuing
care needs.
They have been
active in encouraging older people to make arrangements for Lasting
Power of Attorney to help those who may lose the capacity to make
decisions in later life.
They have also
developed expertise in a number of other areas relevant to older
people including Wills, legacies, protecting assets and the rights
of older workers.
Talking about the link
up, Hugh James’ managing partner Matthew Tossell said: "We are
delighted to be supporting and working with Wales's biggest charity
representing older people and looking forward to participating in
various fundraising activities over the next three months. We are
looking forward to building on our existing relationship by helping
older people with the issues that affect their everyday lives by
applying our extensive knowledge and experience to address these
issues.”
The charity’s Chief
Executive, Robert Taylor, commented: “The economic climate,
soaring fuel bills, and the huge pressures on health and social
care budgets has created some very difficult challenges for older
people in Wales today. Therefore, as the leading charity for
older people in Wales, we need to understand their needs and their
difficulties, and help find the solutions that enable older people
to live fulfilled lives free from the worries of poverty and
exclusion.
Working with Hugh James
will go along way towards helping us to deliver our work as not
only will the relationship help increase our resources but it will
also increase our understanding of some of the main legal issues
relating to older age. Spring will be a very important time
for the charity as we launch our new brand name of Age Cymru
following our merger last year, so the support of Hugh James will
be crucial to us during the months ahead.”
