Government ASBO announcement

Home Secretary, Theresa May, announced yesterday that a full review of the use of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders was to be launched.

Introduced by the last Labour Government, ASBOs were intended to tackle anti-social behaviour offences where other sanctions had failed.  The new Coalition Government argues that they have been ineffectual, citing the fact that over half of all ASBOs given in 2008 were breached.

Theresa May stated that it was time to 'move beyond' ASBOs and believes that communities need to pull together to stamp out anti-social behaviour. Quite how that is to be done remains to be seen. We will provide further updates as more information about the review is released.
