Macmillan asks for changes in cancer care in Wales

Last week Macmillan, a UK cancer
care and support charity, launched their latest policy report
containing recommendations on making cancer care in Wales more
person-centred.
The ‘Changing Cancer Care in Wales’
report makes two key recommendations:
- A national and comprehensive person-centred cancer strategy in
Wales putting people affected by cancer at its heart.
- The strategy should incorporate four key initiatives to make
cancer care more person-centred and cost effective; assessment and
care planning, reforming cancer follow up, personalised information
and support and access to a key worker.
The report follows three years of
research and consultation with those affected by cancer and working
in cancer care in Wales, as well as academics. It also looks at
studies, research and data from the government, other organisations
and the public sector for the full picture of cancer care in Wales
today.
Macmillan hopes that the next Welsh
Assembly Government will look at and implement these key
recommendations following the election in May.
