A specialist Cardiff solicitor has added yet
another national recognition to her growing list of
achievements.
Lisa Morgan, a Senior Associate at Hugh James
solicitors, has been named as one of Glamour magazine’s ‘35 Women
Under 35’ on their 2011 Power List. This puts 32-year-old Ms
Morgan amongst the ranks of Keira Knightley, Jessica Ennis and Kate
Middleton, who have all made it onto this year’s list.
The Glamour Power List is described as
highlighting those women with “real power” who are “brimming with
determination”. Ms Morgan, who qualified in 2006, is the only
solicitor named on the list, demonstrating the impact she is
already having on the profession. The accolade comes just
months after Lisa was awarded the honour of Junior Lawyer of the
Year at the Law Society’s annual Excellence Awards in recognition
of her work in the area of continuing healthcare, as well as for
her pro bono and mentoring work.
Lisa is a specialist solicitor in the niche
area of continuing healthcare, which is where the NHS is
financially responsible for care. This is an area of law
which is largely neglected by the legal profession, but Lisa has
been instrumental in developing a niche department at Hugh James
who solely act for the elderly and families in recovering wrongly
paid nursing fees. She has acted for hundreds of clients in
England and Wales in challenging current and retrospective
decisions to refuse NHS funded continuing healthcare to long-term
nursing home residents.
Speaking about the award nomination, Lisa
Morgan says, “I’m thrilled to have been listed on Glamour’s Power
List as one of their ‘35 Women Under 35’. It’s a real honour
to be listed amongst some truly inspiring women who are making a
real difference to business, politics and society in
general.
“Challenging continuing healthcare can be a
long and difficult process and to be included on such an
influential list really is a credit to the hard work of the whole
team in successfully settling so many cases.”
Malcolm Evans, Partner at Hugh James says,
“The whole team at Hugh James is extremely proud of Lisa and her
achievements, and this is yet another well-deserved accolade for
her and the team. Lisa has shown true grit and determination
in highlighting the issues around continuing healthcare and gaining
justice for so many families. This recognition demonstrates
the value and impact of her work.”
Ms Morgan, originally from Newtown, Powys, is
a key member of the 22-strong department at Hugh James, headed up
by Partner Malcolm Evans, which represents over 2,000 clients from
England and Wales. The team has successfully recovered over
£15 million in wrongly paid care home fees, as well as saving
hundreds of thousands of pounds of future fees.
As well as acting for clients, Lisa also
lectures widely on the subject of continuing healthcare, and is
supervising solicitor for the award winning Cardiff Law School’s
Continuing Healthcare pro bono scheme.
The March edition of Glamour magazine,
featuring the ’35 Women Under 35’ list, is on sale now.
