Leading law firm Hugh James has advised longstanding client Boomerang Plus plc on its latest acquisition, of award-winning TV producer Oxford Scientific Films Limited.

Boomerang Plus plc, a profitable media group, announced today (9 June 2011) that it has acquired the trade and certain assets and liabilities of Oxford Scientific Films Limited, a London-based, award-winning producer of high-end factual programming, for a cash consideration of £516,250.

The acquisition continues Boomerang’s diversification strategy in terms of both the Company’s geographic presence in the UK and also in terms of its customer base, particularly allowing access to Oxford Scientific Films’ strong links with TV networks in North America.

Oxford Scientific Films is a BAFTA and Emmy-award-winning producer of contemporary factual, natural history, science and history programmes for broadcasters in the UK, Australia and North America. It was one of the first independent production companies in the UK and was founded in 1968 by a group of Oxford scientists with a shared passion for technical innovation and natural history.

OSF producers have been responsible for a wide range of quality programming including the global hit series Meerkat Manor (Animal Planet), Fatal Attractions (Animal Planet), Atom (BBC), Richard E Grant’s History of the Safari (BBC), Impaled! (Discovery Channel US and Five), Lockdown Oz Maximum Security (National Geographic) and Saving Africa’s Witch Children (Channel 4).

Mark Fenwick, finance director of Boomerang, said:

“Since their appointment as our lawyers in 2009 the team at Hugh James, led by Gerallt Jones, have worked closely with us as our trusted advisors across various aspects of our business. We have developed an excellent relationship with the team, who always provide a premium service.”

Gerallt Jones, partner and head of the corporate and banking division at Hugh James, said:

“Boomerang is an extremely exciting and outward-looking Welsh company that has continued to grow despite the difficult economic conditions. We are delighted to have assisted them with this further diversification of their business, which further enhances Boomerang’s position as a leading player both in the Welsh economy and further afield.”
