Macmillan launches ‘Gutsy’ support line
09 I 05 I 11
A new support line is now available
in North Wales for individuals affected by surgery for oesophageal
or stomach cancer.
The service has been set up by
former cancer patients and provides emotional support for those who
are newly diagnosed or undergoing treatment as well as family and
friends close to them.
The line is run solely by
volunteers and is backed by Macmillan cancer support and is the
first of its kind in Wales.
Cath Lindley, general manager for
Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, said: “Everyone diagnosed with
cancer in Wales should get the support they need when they want it,
but we know that this vital service is often based on where you
live rather than need.”
Cenric Clement-Evans, Partner and
head of the Cancer Care team at Hugh James solicitors in Cardiff,
said: “This is good news for people affected by cancer in North
Wales. The benefit of being able to turn to someone with experience
and understanding at this time cannot be underestimated. All those
affected by cancer in Wales deserve this support ”
