The National Joint Registry for England and Wales recently reported that the DePuy ASR hip continues to fail. Approximately 29% of patients who six years ago were implanted with the DePuy ASR hip have experienced a failure. The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States has also cited that the DePuy ASR metal-on-metal hip is continuing to fail at an alarming rate.

The DePuy hip is manufactured by DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. and has been in clinical use across the UK since 2003. In 2010, a recall was issued for the DePuy ASR implant and it is estimated that 9,000 units are subject to the product recall.

Mark Harvey, Partner and Head of the top ranked personal injury team at Hugh James Solicitors is currently acting for patients affected by the DePuy product failure. Mark says, “Anyone who has had hip replacement surgery and is concerned, or is suffering on going problems should contact their GP for further advice. Those affected may be entitled to make a claim for compensation”.
