Mari Rosser, Solicitor and Partner within the Hugh James Clinical Negligence Team, has given her reaction to BBC Radio Cymru regarding the findings of a recent report of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

The report found that sperm samples from multiple patients had been mistakenly destroyed at the IVF Wales clinic in Cardiff and that a patient was given sperm which had not been screened for sexually transmitted diseases.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have apologised and said that the destroyed samples had not affected the patients' ability to have children, whilst the patient who received unscreened sperm had been subsequently tested and was clear of any infection.  The report also highlighted concerns about success rates and staffing levels at the clinic.

Mari Rosser of the Clinical Negligence Team at Hugh James Solicitors says “ It is hoped that the Health Board  learns lessons from the findings of this report and takes all the action necessary to improve standards so as to regain the confidence of these vulnerable patients".
