A rise in the number of fatal work place incidents in Wales

Last week the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) issued fresh
warnings for safety in the workplace following an increase in the
number of people killed at work in Wales.
In 2009, seven workers lost their lives following fatal workplace
incidents, with the number of fatalities rising to 11 during
2010/11. A further 1,399 workers also suffered personal injury in
the workplace from agricultural incidents and construction
incidents to chemical exposure.
The HSE insist that Wales still has one of the lowest rates of
workplace deaths in Europe. However, this rising figure highlights
the need for good health and safety in the workplace.
Iain Scott, Partner and member of the top ranked Personal Injury Team at Hugh James
solicitors Cardiff is representing a number of families affected by
work place fatalities and serious injury. Iain says "It is of
concern that there has been an increase in the number of fatalities
when there is already in place a raft of rigorous health and safety
legislation to protect workers .Failure on the part of employers to
adhere to good health and safety practice in the work place has an
obvious impact upon the lives of workers but sadly also their
families and dependants".
