The training department of Cardiff-based Hugh
James solicitors, which offers training on all aspects of
employment and HR law, announces that its services are going from
strength to strength, with an increasing take-up of its training
services from businesses across the region.
The news comes in the same week that a
partnership between the department and Training Services Wales is
confirmed. The partnership will involve the two organisations
working together to provide and facilitate a range of local
training courses on employment law. This latest partnership
is in addition to the established partnership between the
department and the Wales Quality Centre.
The training on offer provides businesses with
in-depth knowledge and guidance on a wide range of employment and
HR topics from managing sickness and absence, to performance
management, and how to deal with disciplinary and
grievance.
The department, which is led by Helen Iles,
Head of Training at Hugh James, is now being recognised as one of
the leading providers in employment law training for local
businesses, with businesses expressing their confidence in Hugh
James’ ability, skills and experience.
One of the businesses who has taken up
training services from Hugh James is Invacare, headquartered in
Bridgend. Simon Cox, HR Manager for Invacare, says: "The
training packages designed and offered by Helen and her team are
not only very professional and well-crafted in terms of their
excellent presentation and content, but also fairly unique in the
way they "pack in" such a wide range of crucial employment advice
with the ability to convey some key messages in a very memorable
way.
“I have witnessed training sessions with
groups of managers and supervisors alike, and can honestly say that
the feedback from these events is always consistent in that the
participants find the sessions engaging, informative and above all
enjoyable. Helen's personal skills and ability to make employment
law both interesting and enjoyable is clearly evident in all she
does and the success of her endeavours bears testament to this
fact.”
Cardiff-based Community Housing Cymru have
also taken up training with the department. Phillipa Knowles,
Director Central Services at Community Housing Cymru, says:
“Helen has delivered a wide range of training at a
number of our events including conferences and specific courses.
Feedback from delegates has been extremely positive in terms of
Helen's knowledge, delivery style and her ability to explain
complex legal issues in an easy to understand way.”
Quality of the services has also been
demonstrated by the department being recognised as an Institute of
Leadership and Management (ILM) training provider in 2011 and
shortlisted for a Law Society Excellence Award for training and
development.
Helen Iles, Head of Training at Hugh James,
says: “We have been working very hard to develop our training
department, and partnerships - such as the recent ones with
Training Services Wales and the Wales Quality Centre - allow us to
share our knowledge and offer the best possible advice and guidance
to businesses.
“Whether you have been employing staff for
years, or are new to people management, the constantly changing
legislative and case law environment on employment law can throw up
a variety of challenges. We are staying ahead of the game and
meeting the needs of businesses by providing this up-to-the-minute
training.
“It is really encouraging to see the steady
increase in take-up of our services by businesses in the South
Wales region. This demonstrates that in the tough economic
climate we’re facing, businesses are seeing the importance of not
only being familiar with current employment law practices and
processes, but also in training their staff in new skills.”
