Hugh James Solicitors Obtain £200,000 for Widow of Mesothelioma Victim

The widow of a man killed by asbestos-related cancer has settled her claim against his former employers.

Mr Jones suffered symptoms of his disease for just two years before he died. His illness was caused by his contact with asbestos fibres from the work he did as a mechanic on furnaces and boilers lagged with asbestos.

That exposure arose in three separate posts in the 1950s and 1960s when he worked at Lysaght’s Steel in Newport, at Uskmouth power station and at the Monsanto factory in Newport.

Expert mesothelioma solicitor Gavin Evans, who represented Mr and Mrs Jones and advised Mrs Jones on the settlement of her claim, said: "This is a terrible disease which can affect people decades after exposure to asbestos fibres. It causes horrible suffering. I am pleased that Mrs Jones now feels her husband’s former employers have been called to account and that the successful settlement of her claim will mean that she can now begin to rebuild her life."
