Dopamine agonist treatment of Parkinson’s disease, Restless Leg Syndrome and other movement disorders

Dopamine agonists such as Mirapexin (pramipexole) and Celance (pergolide) are the first line of treatment for Parkinson’s disease and other motor disorders such as ‘restless leg’ syndrome. For most people the benefit derived outweighs any minor side effects of the treatment. However, a small number of patients receiving this treatment have reported suffering from impulse control disorder (ICD) with problems that can include gambling, hypersexuality, impulse shopping and binge eating. Warnings were only issued to physicians since 2005/6 although it appears that the pharmaceutical companies producing these treatments were aware of these adverse effects beforehand. Many patients consider they should have been warned so that they could have sought other treatments.

Hugh James is experienced in pharmaceutical multi-party actions. If you have suffered from ICD following any of these treatments and you wish to receive legal free initial consultation about bringing a claim for the harm you have suffered please contact Mr. Mark Harvey on mark.harvey@hughjames.com or Dr. Sarah-Jane Richards on tel. 02920 391057 or sarah.richards@hughjames.com
