The consequences of criminal convictions

For many, the consequences flowing from just an arrest can include onerous bail conditions which can limit travel and prejudice an individual’s ability to remain in employment and even continue living in their home. Fingerprints and DNA samples can remain on a national database for life.

The increased use of speed cameras has led to the exponential increase in motoring convictions over recent years which can have dire consequences such as the loss of jobs and livelihoods.

Disputes with employers, neighbours and spouses or partners can get out of hand and result in police intervention and prosecutions for offences such as assault or fraud and theft. Convictions will result in a criminal record and even where prison is avoided, the consequences can be devastating for individuals and their families.
