Climbing Rope

You are often not alone when your legal rights have been infringed!

Group actions (sometimes called multi-party actions) are a way of people joining together to seek justice. They can make manageable cases that would – perhaps for financial reasons – not be practical as a single action. The collective strength a group gives to its individual members is not to be underestimated.

Hugh James’ specialist team has been at the forefront of group actions for over 15 years acting in many high profile cases. We may be able to help whether you suffer from work related illness, have been involved in a major incident or have suffered as a result of a defective product.

Group actions also help provide access to justice where large numbers of people have been affected by another’s conduct, but where individual losses are so small that the action would otherwise not be economically viable.

How Hugh James can help

Hugh James can help bring people together to fight what can be complex actions. We are well used to handling cases in the media spot light and helping our clients cope with a high profile cases.

Our team involves not just specialist lawyers but scientists and clinicians who assist us in areas of complexity.

We look for answers and solutions - not just compensation. If what you want is an apology that is what we will work for.

We have a track record of success having secured agreements to prevent environmental damage, treatment for injured patients and rehabilitation for sufferers of posttraumatic stress disorder as well as recovering many millions in compensation in the last 15 years.

Legal costs are always a worry. We can provide innovative funding solutions to cover legal costs. We have handled many group actions on a ‘no win no fee’ basis and also Public Funding (Legal Aid) as members of the Legal Services Commission Multi-Party Action panel.

Supportive information

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation focuses on enabling an injured individual to regain control over their body and life. The aim is to enable the injured person to live as independently as possible and to enable them to make their own decisions about what to do, when to do them and how. For more information on rehabilitation please see our rehabilitation information page.

Time limits

Different types of cases have different time limits in which they have to be pursued. If the wrong time limit is applied it can have devastating consequences for your claim.  The law in relation to this area is very complex but it is fair to say that time really is of the essence. For more information about time limits please see our time limits information page.

Compensation

If your claim is successful, you will receive an award of damages, often called compensation. The aim of compensation is to put you, as far as possible, in the same position that you would have been in had the accident not occurred.  The amount of compensation varies in each case. For further information on compensation please read our compensation information page.

Interim payments

Claims for damages following severe injuries will often take a number of years to be resolved, not least because it can take a considerable time for the medical position to be clarified and future needs to be identified.

Interim payments are therefore very important to the injured person, their families and carers. These payments are necessary both to assist financially during this difficult period and also to ensure that any care and rehabilitation can be paid for. For more information see our interim payments page.

Funding your claim

There are a number of ways of funding your case.  Public funding (legal aid) is generally no longer available for personal injury actions. To read about the different ways to fund your claim please read our funding your claim information page.

Free consultation

We are more than happy to arrange an initial free interview at any of our offices or, if necessary, at your home or even at hospital if treatment is ongoing. Our legal team will discuss all the options available to you and will proceed on the most appropriate basis for your particular case. To read about our free interview offer please read our free consultation information page.
