Hugh James legal construction services

Our advice centres around six key issues:

  • Procurement strategy – assisting you to define the strategy that best meets your needs whether it is the traditional route, design and build or PFI.

  • Framework/Partnering agreements – delivering specialist advice on the process involved in partnering and collaborative arrangements including framework agreements.

  • Public Private Partnerships – Private Finance Initiative – delivering specialist advice on construction related issues that are often central to PPP/PFI projects.

  • Drafting – we advise on the range of contractual documents in construction and energy projects. We also assist clients with drafting and amendments to industry standard contract documentation.

  • General advice – Maintaining close relationships with our clients we provide proactive advice during a project to clarify issues and help to avoid problems. We often provide legal helplines and 'legal health checks' on existing documents to flag up potential problems and encourage best practice.

  • Dispute management and resolution – if disputes arise, we can advise you on how to achieve an effective and commercial result whether it be through negotiation, a form of alternative dispute resolution such as mediation, or adjudication, litigation and arbitration.

What the trade press say about us

  • Top 20 law firm

Builder and Engineer magazine name Hugh James as one of the UK Top 20 construction law firms:

" ..a team rapidly making a name for themselves.....The wider firm itself has a national reputation for handling industrial compensation claims, but the construction team is carving out its own niche within the firm.

Testimonials

"This is the fifth University of Wales accommodation contract that Gwalia has won. It is the largest PFI contract for student accommodation that we have undertaken with a total value approaching £40million. The contract was complicated and negotiations were incredibly complex………. Hugh James advised on all aspects of the contract including the project agreement, the construction contract, the loan agreement and the leases with the University. We are working with Hugh James on a number of new and exciting schemes both in the social housing and university sectors."

Michael Williams, Chief Executive, Grŵp Gwalia

"This strongly client-focused firm is seen as "the antidote to old-school, airs and graces solicitors." The construction team works hand in hand with the projects team, and the team's strong PFI reputation remains a key part of its appeal."
