We take pride in delivering a friendly, efficient and cost-effective service to all our clients.

We offer a full range of licensing services to provide you with the advice and assistance that you need to get your operation up and running - legally and safely – enabling you to concentrate on developing a successful business.

Furthermore as a licensed premise you are regulated by not only the Licensing Authority but also other authorities in relation to health & safety, weights & measures, food safety, trading standards, disability discrimination and door security.

The Hugh James licensing team combines expertise in both licensing and regulation to ensure that you have the right support for your needs.

We are recognised by the Legal 500 and Chambers as the leading provider of licensing advice in South Wales, while Mark Perry is ranked as one of the principality's leading individuals.

We deal with all aspects of liquor licensing & gambling including:

  • premises licence applications
  • internet and actual betting and gaming license applications
  • variation applications
  • designated premises supervisor variations
  • personal licence applications
  • objections & temporary events notices
  • initial applications & transfers
  • appeals and breach proceedings
  • gaming machine licences
  • pools and lotteries applications
  • street trading & pavement licences

The team frequently acts in applications for betting and gaming licences under the new regime which governs them.

The team has developed a “licensing health check” toolkit which focuses on the auditing of the due diligence systems of off-licenses for compliance. It is a value for money solution for all licensees.

Our licensing clients range from individual bars, pub chains, restaurant chains, stadiums, betting offices, theatres, cinemas, hotels and an impressive range of large scale event licensing.

With a background in regulatory crime, Martin Jones takes particular interest in licensing breach cases and revocations and appeals.

Martin is a member of the Hugh James regulatory  team which offers a range of services designed to support the licensing team including:

  • disability discrimination
  • environmental protection
