Profile

Mari Rosser is a partner in the Health Law and Redress team. Her main area of expertise is clinical negligence, she is a member of both The Law Society’s clinical negligence panel and the referral panel for Action against Medical Accidents. Mari has a particular specialism in adult brain injury cases and fatal accident claims. She has advised a number of patients who have been victims of gross neglect, representing the interests of patients and bereaved families in such cases involving GMC proceedings.

Mari is head of a team which advises and assists the Welsh Community Health Councils (CHCs) on all aspects of medical law.  She has been providing legal advice and support to the CHCs since the firm’s appointment as the CHCs’ solicitors in 2004. She has advised the CHC Board, Chief Officers and advocates on a variety of complex issues of public and medical law. Mari has also provided training to Chief Officers and Complaints Advocates on a variety of subjects.

Within Hugh James, Mari is currently working with the Welsh Government's Health and Social Policy Department on the implementation of the new NHS Redress arrangements. This role is crucial to the Hugh James clinical negligence team, both in relation to the conduct of individual cases and the advice service which it provides to the Community Health Councils in Wales.

Mari has been central to the public debate on many of the recent changes to the way in which patients concerns about NHS services are handled. She served on the National Assembly Working Party which formulated the rules of the Speedy Resolution Scheme.

She gave evidence to the Assembly Committee on the NHS Redress Measure and has contributed extensively to the consultation on the draft Putting Things Right Regulations.

Mari is recommended by both the Legal 500 and Chambers directories as a leader in the field of clinical negligence.  Mari is also an adjudicator for the Legal Services Commission.

Mari is also a regular media contributor commenting (in Welsh and English) on matters relating to Health law and Clinical Negligence.
