Profile
Penny is a Partner in the Hugh
James Commercial Property Team. She specialises in development and
specifically student accommodation schemes. She was involved in the
£175,000,000 portfolio sale of student accommodation.
Penny has a great deal of
experience in all aspects of commercial property but predominantly
in development including: initial land assembly, development
agreements, pre-lets and sales, secured lending and landlord and
tenant related matters. By way of example of recent transactions,
Penny negotiated a joint venture with Tameside Metropolitan Borough
Council for the multi-million pound town centre regeneration of
Droylesden in East Manchester. The development will comprise
a mixed residential, retail, office and leisure scheme to include
tram/metro links and waterfront/marina scheme. She has
single-handedly dealt with a large portfolio sale of multi-let
residential properties in North Wales.
Further afield, Penny has been
involved in the acquisition of several acres of prime real estate
on the Isle of Wight which are to be carved up and sold to McCarthy
and Stone, Sainsbury's and a national house builder.
On the landlord and tenant side of
matters, Penny dealt with the re-gearing of some thirty leases at
Griffin Island in Newport for Arrowcroft (JB) Limited, and
subsequently the sale of the estate.
Current main clients include Watkin
Jones & Son Limited and Dovey Estates Limited.

After four years at Cameron Markby
Hewitt, Penny spent a further four years at D J Freeman in
London. She moved to Cardiff in 1998 where she joined a small
firm at which she became a Partner. From there, she moved to
Capital Law again as a Partner and subsequently on to Hugh
James.
