What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring substance that was used in various applications from the 1950s to 1990s. Asbestos was mainly used for its insulation properties and was often mixed with other materials.

Industry was a heavy user of asbestos. It was commonly used in steel production, ship building and construction until it was banned in the 1990s. Many individuals continue to be exposed today as the buildings we visit on a daily basis still contain asbestos, but it is only harmful if damaged and inhaled.

Asbestos related illnesses can take 40 years or more to appear. With its heavy industrial use and its presence in public and private buildings such as factories, the number of individuals diagnosed with asbestos related illnesses is expected to grow for years to come.

Can I make a compensation claim?

If you have been diagnosed with an illness such as mesothelioma, lung cancerasbestosis or pleural thickening then you should contact our specialist solicitors to find out whether you’re eligible for compensation. We will ask you some key questions about your working history and your illness so that we can make further investigations and advise you on the likelihood of your claim succeeding. Our initial investigation process is free of charge and we will advise you in detail about the next steps before you agree to instruct us. We may also be able to help you if your lung cancer has been attributed to smoking, but you have a history of working in an asbestos based environment.

If you decide to instruct us we will act on a no win, no fee basis which will be fully explained to you beforehand.
