Pleural Plaques Compensation Scheme
On the 2nd August 2010, the
Ministry of Justice revealed the details of the long awaited scheme
for individuals who had attempted to claim compensation for pleural
plaques (as a result of asbestos exposure) prior to the 17th
October 2007.
The government has decided to make
one-off payments of £5,000 to Claimants in that category and
applications must be submitted to them by the 1st August 2011.
The Ministry of Justice have
indicated that in order to qualify for the scheme they must
also:-
1. Have issued a claim form or
sent a letter of claim prior to the 17th October 2007; or
2. Prior to 17th October 2007
must have named a defendant/insurer to make their claim against,
approached a legal/trade union representative about your case and
received confirmation that your case was being taken on; and
3. Not have received any
interim payments of £5,000 or more; and
4. Never have resolved their
case
