On Friday 6 March the A470, a notorious road which runs through the Brecon Beacons, was the scene of yet another fatal accident. Four people lost their lives with other passengers currently in a critical state at hospital following the head on collision.

Five men driving other vehicles in convoy have been arrested following the incident on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Iain Scott, a specialist solicitor at Hugh James in Cardiff, currently represents a family who suffered the loss of a loved one following an accident along the same stretch of the A470. Iain also has family ties to the area and school attended by one of the victims. Iain says “I am deeply saddened by the seriousness of this incident and the lives that it has left shattered .Whilst there will always be road traffic accidents, from my experience, this particular stretch of the A 470 is a notoriously dangerous black spot for accidents. It is in my view that the authorities should take immediate steps to improve the safety of this particular stretch of road.”

Witnesses present after the accident claimed that the collision had been so severe, it had caused the engine from one of the vehicles involved to separate from the car and was lying in the middle of the road.

Following the incident Powys County councillor Liam Fitzpatrick said that the road was “notoriously dangerous”. The road has an average of four to five deaths per year.
