Sarah is a partner and head of the Tax, Trusts and Estates team. Sarah has extensive experience in wills, probate, trusts and tax.
In her capacity as head of the Tax, Trusts and Estates team she is responsible for the supervision of a team consisting of a Senior Associate solicitor, an Assistant solicitor, a Legal Executive and 3 paralegals. This involves ensuring that work coming into the team is dealt with by the appropriate lawyer and ensuring that the training needs of the team are met. Her role also involves developing links with both internal and external referrers of work and that our profile as a high quality private client team is maintained.
Sarah advises clients with high value estates typically involving a diversity of assets such as family company shares, farming partnerships, and land and property portfolios on succession and tax planning. This usually involves discussions on the availability of reliefs from inheritance tax (IHT) and efficient use of those reliefs in their succession planning. As well as drawing up tax efficient wills, Sarah also advises clients on the use of trusts either to be set up on death under their will or during lifetime. She will then act for the trustees of those trusts in relation to their ongoing duties and obligations.
As part of a holistic approach in advising clients, Sarah also advises on the use of Powers of Attorney, particularly those with family companies and the possibility of them having a separate Power of Attorney for their business assets.
Sarah became partner and head of the tax, trusts and estates team in 2012. She qualified in 2002 and practiced for 6 years in a highly respected firm with branches in Somerset and Dorset where she started her specialisation in Tax, Trusts and Estates. The main focus of her work was advising clients on inheritance tax in particular agricultural property relief to clients of the firm who were a number of wealthy land owning families in the area.
Additionally to heading the estates, tax and trusts team Sarah is a full member of Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is a passionate member and director of the charity, Ballet Cymru.
