“Did you know that 60%* of UK adults don’t have a will? The above video highlights why everyone should make sure they have a valid will. (a survey of 2,000 people by Macmillan Cancer Support 2017).”

If you are unable to view the video, the transcript is available here.

Having an up to date will is extremely important. Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for you to achieve that.

To get started, there are two things to consider:

  1. What type of service suits you best?
We offer a postal service, telephone/video meeting or a bespoke service. The details for each option are set out below.
  2. What type of will suits your needs?
We have set out the different sorts of will options below. We will ask you for some initial details so we can confirm the price and type of will suitable for your circumstances. We will make sure that you are allocated a suitable will writer. You can change the type of will at a later date if needed.

Did you know:

Choosing an executor is an important decision. You can choose an individual or a professional or a combination of the two. Your executors have a legal responsibility to carry out the wishes in your will and to do so in line with the requirements of the law.

If you wish to consider a professional executor, we can guide you through your options depending on your circumstances.

At Hugh James, we work together with Lloyds Bank Estate Administration Services who have over 100 years’ experience in dealing with probate and estate administration. You have the option to appoint Lloyds Bank plc as executor and trustee of your will. There is no obligation to appoint Lloyds Bank plc to use the will writing service.

What type of service suits you? 3 will writing service options

We pride ourselves on catering for everyone: whether you require a relatively straightforward will or you’re in need of complex tax advice, we have a service option to suit your needs. The service delivery options for wills are listed below. Please click the down arrow to read more about each option and for links to start the will writing process.

We offer our Postal service option where basic tax and trusts advice is sufficient. We will send you out a detailed Will Instruction Form for you to complete and return. A qualified wills adviser will then review your instructions and contact you to clarify any queries or answer any of your questions. We will then prepare a draft will to send to you.

Upon receipt of that draft, our wills adviser is available again to address any queries and make any amendments that may be necessary. Once a draft is finalised, the final version is sent for execution, along with a detailed guide as to how to do so. Once it is executed, the will is stored free of charge.

If you think our postal service is right for you, please either click the button below and enter your details in the form or give us a call to request a will writing pack from us. Once the completed application form is returned to us, we will then contact you again to take payment (if required) and prepare your draft will.

We offer our telephone or video call service for wills where basic tax and trusts advice is sufficient. If specific advice about a particular tax point or a detailed bespoke report is required, then this can also be provided via telephone meetings but may be treated as falling within our bespoke service (see below).

With our telephone service, we provide a comprehensive will writing instruction form which highlights any issues that require consideration and assists in determining the best way to give effect to your wishes.

A qualified wills adviser is available on the telephone or via video conferencing software to go through the will writing instruction form and answer any of your queries. They will then prepare and send a draft of your will to you.

Upon receipt of that draft, our wills adviser is available again to address any queries and make any amendments that may be necessary. Once a draft is finalised, the final version is sent for execution, along with a detailed guide as to how to do so. Once it is executed, the will is stored free of charge.

If you think our telephone or video call service is right for you, please either click the button below and enter your details in the form or give us a call to request a will writing pack from us. We will then contact you again to confirm receipt of the documents, type of will and cost as well as take payment. We will then book you in for a call with one of our will writers to discuss the details of your will and take instructions.

This offering is most suitable for those who are likely to require in depth and bespoke tax and estate planning advice before finalising their wills.

It includes the same service as the telephone offering, with the option of a full written tax report based on individual circumstances, providing comprehensive advice on your personal tax position and bespoke planning advice. This offering may also incorporate the drafting of further documents pursuant to our advice, such as trust deeds or letters of wishes.

As each individual’s needs are different, we quote for prices via this service on a case-by-case basis but will always endeavour to agree a fixed fee.

If you think our bespoke service may be right for you, please either click the button below and enter your details in the form or give us a call to begin the will writing process, just be sure to indicate that you are interested in a bespoke will. One of our senior solicitors will speak to you first for a no-obligation ‘scoping call’ at the outset, in order to assess precise needs and provide an accurate estimate before any work begins. We may send you documentation to consider and review before your appointment. We will then contact you again to confirm the cost of your will and take payment on account prior to your appointment to give you instructions.
