WSA and Hugh James renew partnership to continue providing members with expert legal services

We are pleased that the Welsh Sports Association (WSA) has renewed its partnership with us as its Legal Support Services Partner, ensuring that its members can continue to take advantage of expert legal services.

With a proud history dating back to 1960, we have grown from a local practice into a full-service firm, recognised for its deep sector expertise, practical commercial insight, and longstanding relationships across sport. We are a trusted adviser to governing bodies, clubs, and organisations across Wales and beyond, combining legal excellence with a passion for helping sport thrive at every level.

As a partner to the WSA, we offer a range of benefits to their members and their member clubs. Their members are able to take advantage of a completely free telephone helpline service, provided by us. This helpline is a pro bono service allowing members and member clubs to seek up to one hour of advice per matter from our experts.

Furthermore, WSA members and their member clubs are eligible for preferential rates on our services. Alongside the WSA, we have also co-developed the Legal Structures for Sports Clubs training course, which can be found on our Online Training Platform. The course aims to build a basic understanding and knowledge of general and individual legal structures, tax and key elements to consider when changing structures.

Mark Loosemore, Partner and Head of our Sports team, commented:

“We’re delighted to renew our partnership with the Welsh Sports Association and to continue supporting its members with legal advice grounded in a deep understanding of the sporting landscape. From safeguarding and governance to sponsorship and major infrastructure projects, our cross-practice team is proud to support the organisations driving Welsh sport forward — so they can focus on success, whatever the sport.”

WSA CEO, Andrew Howard, added:

“We are thrilled to be continuing this vital collaboration with Hugh James.

“Our relationship with Mark goes back a long time; Welsh sport and WSA members have felt the benefit of the team’s expertise for years, and we’re delighted that this will continue as we continue our partnership with Hugh James.

“As a hugely renowned law firm, Hugh James have supported the likes of Welsh Boxing, Welsh Gymnastics, WRU, FAW, Welsh Athletics, Cricket Wales, Wales Golf, Swim Wales, Tennis Wales and Wales Netball, and more over the years; we’re happy to continue linking more members with the experts at Hugh James.”
