David is a Senior Associate in the Commercial Property team, specialising in Real Estate Finance transactions and development acquisitions for housebuilder clients transactions. He acts for a wide range of clients including institutional lenders, developers, and commercial entities, advising on complex financing arrangements, site acquisitions, and strategic land matters
David has extensive experience across the commercial property sector, including landlord and tenant work, acquisitions and disposals, and negotiating infrastructure agreements. He has a particular focus on high-value real estate finance transactions, regularly acting for banks and specialist lenders.
Notable recent work includes advising an institutional lender on a £20.5 million facility for the acquisition of a development site in Islington, acting for a commercial lender on a £28.4 million refinance of a care home portfolio, and advising on a £33.7 million loan to an agricultural business. He also acts for national and regional housebuilder clients developers across Wales and the Southwest in relation to site acquisitions and option agreements.
David joined Hugh James in 2015 as a paralegal in the Nursing Care department before commencing his training contract in 2018. He completed seats in Commercial Property and Neurolaw, qualifying as a solicitor in 2020. He was promoted to Associate in 2023 and Senior Associate in 2025.
David graduated from Cardiff University with an LLB in Law, followed by the Legal Practice Course, in which he achieved a Distinction and was awarded the Edgar Buck Prize for best overall performance.
In March 2024, David was appointed to the Property Committee of the Representative Body of the Church in Wales, where he helps oversee the management of its ecclesiastical and secular estate.
