Hugh James advises Celtic Manor Resort on strategic refinancing

We have advised The Celtic Manor Resort Limited on a strategic refinancing, supporting one of the UK’s leading hospitality destinations as it continues its long-term growth.

Our team acted for The Celtic Manor Resort Limited on the refinancing of its existing lending arrangements into a new financing structure, advising on the transaction and coordinating the banking, property and corporate aspects of the deal.

The transaction replaced the resort’s existing lending arrangements with a new financing structure provided by NatWest and Barclays, which will enable The Celtic Manor Resort Limited to continue to grow and reinvest in its offering.

The Celtic Manor Resort is one of the UK’s best-known hospitality destinations, hosting major international sporting events, conferences and business gatherings. Earlier this year, the resort and International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) were recognised at the 2026 M&IT Awards, where Celtic Manor was named Best UK Hotel, underlining its position as one of the country’s leading hospitality venues. In addition, The Celtic Collection has been named Hotel Group of the Year at the AA Hospitality Awards for 2026-27.

The complex property structure of The Celtic Manor Resort Limited required close coordination between our Banking, Property and Corporate teams led by Banking and Finance Partner Dominic Marshall, and supported by Real Estate Finance Partner David Marshall, alongside Yuliia Kucherenko, David Penwarden and Matt Detheridge.

Dominic Marshall, Partner in our Banking and Finance team, said:

“The Celtic Manor Resort is one of the UK’s leading hospitality and leisure destinations, and we’re proud to have supported the business on this important refinancing. Having worked with The Celtic Manor over many years, this transaction reflects the strength of our longstanding relationship.

“By bringing together specialists from our Banking and Finance, Commercial Property and Corporate teams, we were able to deliver seamless, multidisciplinary advice, demonstrating the breadth of expertise Hugh James offers clients across the leisure and tourism sector.”

Mark Colcomb, Vice President, Finance & Support at The Celtic Manor Resort Limited, added:

“This refinancing marks an important milestone for The Celtic Manor Resort as we continue to invest in the future of the business, exploring new opportunities for expansion and ensuring we keep on delivering the very best in Welsh hospitality across our venues.

“We’re pleased to have worked with the team at Hugh James on this transaction. Their collaborative approach and deep understanding of our business helped ensure the refinancing was completed smoothly. We greatly valued their support throughout the process.”
