Each year Hugh James chooses charities for staff to support. These are charities that make a huge contribution to the communities in which our staff live and work. Each of these three charities will receive a donation from the firm as well as the benefit of staff fundraising activity and fundraising events involving our clients.
Known as the ‘Hospital of Hope,’ Velindre Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer services to over 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond.
Fundraising efforts and donations help the hospital to continue to be the leading provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales. It allows the team to fund projects which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving care and support.
Ty Hafan provides life-changing care and support to children with life shortening conditions and their families who live in Wales.
At the welcoming and vibrant hospice in Sully, and in communities and homes across the country, its team does all it can to help families enjoy time together and create precious memories.
It’s also a safe and loving haven when a child is close to the end of their life, providing comfort and expert care.
Theodora Children’s Charity recruit and train Giggle Doctors to provide laughter and play to children in hospital.
The charity works across 22 hospitals and specialist care centres in England. They also provide giggles virtually so that children across the UK can access their services.
Each Giggle Doctor has their very own tailor-made doctor’s coat. The coats are made from hospital grade material and are designed to reflect the personality of the Giggle Doctor.
PAPYRUS is a UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.
Founded by a group of bereaved parents who had each lost children to suicide, the charity created a suicide prevention helpline called HOPELINE247.
The helpline is staffed by trained suicide prevention advisers who work with young people, and anybody concerned for a young person, to help keep them safe from suicide which is the biggest killer of people aged 35 and under in the UK.

Many of our teams choose to support initiatives where their legal work aligns with the work of certain charities or support groups. They remind us why we have such a passion for what we do and inspire us to do more in support of the causes that matter most to them and their communities.
Age Cymru provide vital services directly to older people in the community. They envision an age-friendly Wales where older people will enjoy good health, live safely, be free from discrimination and be active in their communities.
Brake is a road safety charity working with communities and organisations across the UK to stop the tragedy of road deaths and injuries, make streets and communities safer for everyone, and support people bereaved and seriously injured on roads.
