Law Firm of the Year win for Hugh James and a 2019 round up

Hugh James has been announced as the winner for The Legal 500 Law Firm of the Year for Wales 2020.

This is the third time the firm has received this award in the past five years.

The Legal 500 Series is widely acknowledged as the world’s largest legal referral guide, with more than 300,000 corporate counsel surveyed and interviewed globally each year.

Managing partner, Alun Jones, said:

“This is a great recognition for our teams and rounds up a year that has been very positive for Hugh James.

“Over the last year, our business teams have worked on some of Wales’ most exciting projects, from the transformation of two iconic buildings into a luxury hotel in Cardiff, to continuing to work on the International Convention Centre Wales, which will attract thousands of visitors to Wales on an annual basis. Hugh James was also named ‘Property Law Firm of the Year’ at the Insider Property Awards Wales 2019 earlier this year.

“Our personal injury team also had a great 12 months with two wins at the Personal Injury Awards. Our team specialising in military personnel claims won the ‘Outstanding Case of the Year’ for Inglis vs MoD; a landmark case that is likely to change the lives of thousands of service men and women. We were also named ‘Clinical Negligence Team of the Year’ at the same awards. This reinforces the incredible work undertaken by our dedicated team and reinforces our position in this field as one of the leading UK firms.

“Part of our five year strategy was to relocate our headquarters to an industry-leading office in Cardiff for our staff and clients. We did that in October 2018 and the office, Two Central Square, was awarded the ‘Best Corporate Workplace in the South of England and Wales’ earlier this year. The office has transformed the way our teams work together, increased productivity and provided an incredible environment in which our clients can spend time with us. The design of the office space allows us to implement agile and collaborative working by utilising appropriate areas for all ways of working.

“Looking to the future, we are in the process of rolling out new and bespoke case management software, which will increase the efficiency of the work we do and simplify the management of some of the major complex cases we run. We are also finalising the development of a Hugh James App, which will revolutionise our communication and engagement with clients and business intermediaries.

“2020 will also see us strengthen our teams with experts joining us in London and Cardiff to support our growth plans in both offices.

“2019 has been a great success for us and this award is a testament to the hard work of all our teams throughout the year.”
