Kerry Read is a Senior Associate in the Family Law team at Hugh James, based predominantly in the firm’s London office.
Kerry advises clients on all aspects of family law, with particular experience in complex children matters and financial disputes arising following relationship breakdown. She regularly represents parents in private children proceedings involving child arrangements, specific issue and prohibited steps applications, relocation and other disputes concerning the exercise of parental responsibility.
She also advises clients in relation to divorce and financial remedy proceedings, including the division of property, pensions and other assets, as well as disputes arising between unmarried couples and issues concerning the ownership and occupation of property.
Kerry has considerable experience of cases involving domestic abuse and allegations of controlling or coercive behaviour, including applications for non-molestation and occupation orders and cases where allegations overlap with ongoing children proceedings.
Kerry adopts a pragmatic and solution-focused approach. She understands that clients often seek advice at an exceptionally difficult and uncertain point in their lives and places particular importance on providing clear, straightforward advice so that they understand their options and can make informed decisions about the way forward.
Where possible, Kerry encourages clients to resolve matters constructively and without unnecessary litigation. Where court proceedings are required, however, she is a confident and robust advocate for her clients and is experienced in managing cases from initial application through to final hearing.
Kerry prides herself on being approachable and responsive and on developing strong working relationships with her clients. Her focus is always on understanding what matters most to the individual client and achieving a practical, proportionate and lasting outcome for them and their family.
Alongside her legal practice, Kerry has played an active role in the wider legal profession. She previously served as President of the Norwich and Norfolk Law Society and is now its Immediate Past President. She remains committed to supporting the local legal community and promoting the profession more widely.
