Hugh James achieves significant tender win serving the Housing Associations’ Legal Alliance

We have been reappointed to the Housing Associations’ Legal Alliance, with Southern Housing acting as the contracting authority, following a successful competitive tender process.

Being appointed to HALA gives us a role in supporting some of the housing sector’s most important work in London, advising housing associations as they deliver homes, unlock development opportunities and manage complex property challenges across the capital

The reappointment continues our track record on the framework that has lasted almost a decade, providing expert legal advice across development, commercial property, residential property and construction litigation.

During this time, we have grown across the UK, opening offices in Manchester and Southampton and expanding our base in central London to a larger base in the heart of the city.
The work will support the consortium of 54 housing associations operating across London, the South East, the Isle of Wight and the Midlands to continue providing vital new homes to those in need.

The win further reinforces our growing profile in the social housing sector and builds on our successful track record advising housing providers on complex development, regeneration, construction and property matters.

It comes at a time when the need for more social housing, particularly in London and the surrounding regions, remains a major public and policy issue. The Mayor[EP1.1] of London is under pressure to deliver 88,000 new homes a year, with the delivery of affordable homes significantly behind target.

Through the framework, we will continue to support housing associations with legal advice that supports this need by helping to progress development and regeneration projects, manage construction risk and deliver affordable homes for communities.

The team will be led by Partner and Head of Social Housing, Caroline O’Flaherty.

On the reappointment, Caroline said:

“A place on the HALA framework is a significant accolade for Hugh James. It is a legal services framework with a broad range of housing associations operating in London who have unique challenges who we are pleased to support in their delivery, management and growth of social housing across the capital and beyond.

“This appointment reflects the strength of our social housing and commercial real estate expertise, and the significant growth we have achieved in this area. It is a sector that we have seen evolve and are proud to be supporting with the complex property and development work that underpins the delivery of much-needed homes and stronger communities.”
