Earlier this year, Hugh James brought together leaders from across the Welsh housing sector to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to affect people, services and future decision making. The discussion explored how housing organisations can consider AI’s potential while protecting trust, fairness and human oversight. Hugh James partners Louise Price and Harriet Morgan led the discussion.
The draw to “do more with less” is understandable with housing providers working amid rising construction and maintenance costs, housing shortages, pressure to deliver more affordable homes and workforce challenges. Against this backdrop, AI may help by automating repetitive administrative tasks, improving access to organisational knowledge and supporting data analysis, giving staff more time for work that depends on judgement and human understanding. As a sector that aims to people at the heart of decision-making, could AI be the key to unlocking greater capacity or could it risk losing sight of the communities it should serve?
