Witness Appeal: Did you work with the late Mr Herbert Goddard in the 1960s?

The daughter of the late Mr Herbert Goddard, who worked at Willington Power Station, is appealing for information from individuals who worked with him between 1964 and 1968.

Our specialist asbestos solicitors have been instructed by the daughter of Mr Goddard to pursue a civil compensation claim following her diagnosis with the asbestos-related disease, mesothelioma, in April 2025.

We are now appealing for witnesses in order to trace former colleagues, contractors or others who may have knowledge of working conditions, maintenance activity, or potential asbestos exposure during Mr Goddard’s employment at Willington Power Station for these various companies:

  • CEGB (Central Electricity Generating Board) (1964 / 65)
  • R B Hilton Ltd (1966 / 67)
  • The Darlington Insulation Co Ltd (1966 / 67 – 1968 / 69)
  • Foster Wheeler John Brown Consortium (1967 / 68)

Mr Goddard served as a labourer / cleaner for all of the above companies at Willington Power Station over the given periods of employment. One of his duties was to clean the inside of the cooling towers and he came home each day covered in dust from his overalls to his hair.

Emma Newman, senior associate in our asbestos team, said:

“We are hoping to help Mr Goddard’s daughter by locating others who worked for any of the above companies during the same period as Mr Goddard. If you worked with Mr Goddard at any point during his career or have any information relating to asbestos exposure within these roles, Mr Goddard’s daughter would greatly appreciate your assistance. Even small details could prove crucial in understanding how she was exposed and in holding those responsible to account.”
