Lung cancers are cancers which begin in the lung cells, and result in the formation of malignant tumours within the lungs. Any of the common types of lung cancer can be caused by asbestos exposure although lung cancer is also linked with other causes, including environmental air pollution and smoking. Even if you have smoked, we may still be able to show that asbestos exposure increased your lung cancer risk, but in order to prove that your lung cancer has been caused by asbestos, a history of considerable asbestos exposure needs to be shown.

The risk of lung cancer increases according to the amount of asbestos dust someone has been exposed to and lung cancer is generally associated with very heavy workplace exposure to asbestos dust and fibres. There is no typical period of time between asbestos exposure and the onset of asbestos related lung cancer.

This is personal to you and will depend upon a number of factors which are unique to your individual situation. Compensation includes an award for the pain and suffering caused by your illness, together with sums claimed in respect of any care needs, and any financial losses arising from your diagnosis.
