Mrs Margaret Lee (nee Iveson) who has sadly been diagnosed with mesothelioma – a disease caused by asbestos exposure – is appealing for information from individuals who worked with her between 1967 and 1971.

We are looking to trace former colleagues, or others who may have knowledge of working conditions, the underground tunnels and / or potential asbestos exposure during Mrs Lee’s employment. Mrs Lee’s diagnosis has been an extremely difficult time for her and her family.
Our asbestos legal team is now appealing for witnesses who worked at the old Newcastle General Hospital at Westgate Road between 1967 and 1971.
During her employment at Newcastle General Hospital, Mrs Lee (known at the time as Peggie Iveson, her maiden name) lived in a nurse’s home across the road from the main hospital. To access the hospital, staff used the underground tunnel beneath Westgate Road.
Mrs Lee recalls using the tunnel every day; at the start of her shift, to take lunch at her residency, to return to the hospital after lunch and at the end of the day. She understands that asbestos was later removed from this tunnel. Further sources have confirmed that the tunnel was closed in the 1970s due to asbestos.

Even small details could prove crucial in understanding how she was exposed and in holding those responsible to account.”
