Witness Appeal: Did you work with Peter Williams at Heckett (BSC) Limited in 1974/1975?

The family of the late Peter Williams are appealing for witnesses who may have worked with Peter at Llanwern Steelworks between 1974 and 1975. Peter worked at Llanwern Steelworks for a sub-contractor called Heckett.

Peter Williams

Peter sadly passed away from the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma in October 2021, just a month after his diagnosis. Peter was 63 years of age when he died. Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer, the only known cause of which is previous exposure to asbestos. Peter’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was unable to provide a formal statement regarding his work history and asbestos exposureaf.

Peter’s family were however able to take some details from him about his time working at Llanwern Steelworks for Heckett. The family have instructed specialist asbestos disease solicitor Emma James of Hugh James to investigate Peter’s occupational history and to consider how he may have been exposed to asbestos.

Peter Williams

Peter recalled leaving school at the age of 16 and going to work at Llanwern Steelworks in 1974, having been contracted to work there through a company called Heckett. Peter’s job involved directing cranes in and out of the blast furnaces.

Anyone who worked with Peter Williams, or anyone who worked for Heckett or at Llanwern Steelworks in 1974 or 1975, is encouraged to contact Emma James at Hugh James on 029 2267 5825

Even if witnesses do not remember Peter, any information provided about Heckett or the working conditions at the steelworks, particularly the conditions in and around the blast furnaces, could help assist Peter’s family in their claim.

Armed with the experience and specialist knowledge that is required for this complex area, Hugh James has helped thousands of people who have been either injured or developed an illness as a result of their work.
