An interview with Roland Angerer from ChildFund

In this episode, Alan talks with Roland Angerer from ChildFund which is a global community of people who care about children, and take action to help them live at their fullest potential at every stage of their lives.

Alan and Roland discuss the challenges that IT and social media bring in attempting to address child sexual exploitation.

The problem of child sexual exploitation is a global one and is rapidly evolving through the misuse of IT and social media. All children and young people are potentially vulnerable no matter where they live or what their circumstances may be. We do know however that poverty, war, and less sophisticated legal and criminal justice systems aggravate the risks.

Child sexual exploitation is extremely harmful to the victims but damaging too their families and communities. Without taking action to prevent abuse, and to support young people they are going to be unable to achieve their potential.

In answer to Alan’ questions about how to address the challenges practically Roland explains the work being undertaken is to educate not just children, but adults and society too.

The work of ChildFund and other agencies in the field have to address cultural differences and the strength and weaknesses that this may bring.
