What are you looking for?

HJ Heroes

We’re so grateful to the healthcare workers, charities and keyworker staff who are supporting us through the COVID-19 crisis. They’re the everyday heroes who are looking after us and keeping the nation running at this difficult time.

At Hugh James, we support and work with a large number of charities – causes that resonate with our staff and many that link closely with the work we do in providing legal support to those in need. They include cancer charities, care for children, the elderly, people with disabilities and victims of crime.

With charities facing difficult times at the moment, they need our support now more than ever. We want to shine a light on the important and inspiring work they do so we’ve listed them all below.

They’re causes close to our heart. They’re our HJ Heroes.

Headline charities

Each year Hugh James chooses charities for staff to support. These are charities that make a huge contribution to the communities in which our staff live and work.

Velindre Cancer Centre

Velindre – Wales’ Premier Cancer Centre – is known as The Hospital of Hope, which is made possible because of the fantastic and committed support of our fundraisers and donors. Money raised from fundraisers like you is used to ensure the best possible support is offered to every patient, their families and carers dealing with cancer.

It allows us to fund specialist nurses who are fundamental to a patient’s experience, implement projects to improve the physical environment for a patient, such as our gardens, the Family and Children’s Room and
so much more. It enables them to offer better support through complex treatment pathways, earlier access to cutting edge treatments, research into new treatments, purchase specialist equipment and ensure our staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available.

It really is difficult to overstate the difference fundraising makes at Velindre, but the benefits are invaluable.

Theodora Children’s Charity

Theodora Children’s Charity recruit and train Giggle Doctors to provide laughter and play to children in hospital. The charity work across 22 hospitals and specialist care centres in England. They also provide giggles virtually so that children across the UK can access their services.

The Giggle Doctors are trained over a period of two years. Their training includes both clinical training, such as infection control, and artistic training. This helps Giggle Doctors to develop the skills required to adapt their creativity and artistic talent to the hospital environment and ensures that they are prepared to provide laughter to children in hospitals.
