Dramatic increase in sign-ups by Hugh James colleagues for this year’s Long Course Weekend event

Kicking off the second year of our partnership in style, we’re thrilled to announce a surge in Hugh James representation for this year’s Long Course Weekend (LCW) Wales event – with over double the number of staff signed up compared to last year.

As one of the biggest multisport events in Europe, LCW Wales Powered By Hugh James is a truly unique festival of sport. Athletes compete across three disciplines over the course of a weekend, picking the sport that suits them best: swimming, cycling or running – or all three!

This year, we have a total of 15 Hugh James staff members competing in 17 events over the weekend in Pembrokeshire, which is a dramatic increase in sign-ups since we first offered the complimentary spaces last year.

As title partner for the full weekend on 21 to 23 June, we have focused our sponsor privileges on staff wellbeing – offering places for the various events taking place during the weekend to Hugh James employees.

It’s great to see so many colleagues get involved in the challenge and we’re proud to support their health and wellbeing through sport.

This year, we have colleagues from several of our offices across England and Wales taking part in different swimming, cycling and running events.  We’ll hear from some of them in the coming weeks and months in the run up to the big weekend to see how they’re getting on with their training.

Our partnership not only supports our colleagues but also the LCW Legacy Programme for the community. This project has helped hundreds of children in the Pembrokeshire area with extra swimming coaches in lessons, sports days and provided bikes in local primary schools.

The Legacy Programme has been providing vital assistance to local sporting, community and educational groups in the past few years, so we’re really pleased to be able to support such a great cause that impacts the wider community by getting children into sport.

Joe Purcell, Director of Business Development and Marketing, said:

“Our partnership with LCW Wales is centred on giving our employees and community groups in the local area greater access to social and physical activities, and the response so far has been fantastic. We’re really looking forward to the events ahead and wish everyone taking part lots of fun and success in the preparations ahead.”

You can read more about the partnership here and how our ongoing support contributes to the Long Course Legacy programme for local sporting, community and educational groups.

Good luck to all of those who have entered, and we look forward to hearing from our colleagues about their training journeys between now and June.
