Licensing team secures corporate membership of Institute of Licensing

The Hugh James licensing team has joined the Institute of Licensing, through securing a corporate membership. The professional body for licensing practitioners across the UK comprises practitioners from across the regulatory, industry and legal fields. The institute represents members’ views around the framing, reviewing, and enforcing of laws and regulations. It also supports the continuous professional development of members, through training.

As a UK top 100, and the largest law firm in Wales, we employ a specialist department of licensing solicitors. Working in conjunction with our regulatory investigations team, we advise clients on a wide range of matters, including premises and personal licence applications, variation applications, objections, and temporary events notices; appeals and breach proceedings and street trading and pavement licenses.

The team’s recent work has included advising True Swing Ltd on the licensing agreement for Gareth Bale’s Golf-themed bar in Bristol; securing an alcohol licence for the historic Coal Exchange Hotel and for the owners of the Cardiff shisha bar, Conspiracy Lounge.

Commenting on securing membership of the Institute of Licensing, Martin Jones, Partner and Head of the Licensing team, said:

“Joining the Institute of Licensing provides the team with some excellent opportunities to strengthen industry networks and exchange knowledge and best practice with other members. It will open pathways for us to help shape developments and reform across the industry. It will also provide some additional learning opportunities for the team, which is fantastic. We look forward to attending future events, including the Wales regional meeting, and deepening the links and relationships we value in our work.”
