How much does a divorce cost?

We offer clear, fixed-fee divorce services to give you financial certainty and peace of mind. Whether you’re applying for a divorce or responding to one, our transparent pricing structure ensures there are no unexpected costs.

Fixed fee divorce for applicants

If you’re starting the divorce process, you are known as the applicant. Our fixed fee for applicants is £600.

Please note: In addition to our legal fee, a court fee of £612 is currently payable directly to HMCTS when the divorce application is submitted. This is a standard court charge and applies whether you use a solicitor or handle the process yourself. Court fees are set by HMCTS and may change from time to time. Your solicitor will confirm the current fee at the time you apply.

Fixed fee divorce for respondents

If your spouse has started divorce proceedings and you are responding, you are the respondent. Our fixed fee for respondents is £400.

As a respondent, you do not have to pay a court fee, only our fixed legal fee.

Who pays the costs of divorce?

Generally, the applicant is responsible for paying both the court fee and their legal costs. However, in some cases, applicants can ask the respondent to contribute to these costs.

If you’re a respondent and your spouse is claiming costs from you, you’ll need to decide whether to agree to pay or challenge the request. If an agreement can’t be reached, the issue may be decided at a court hearing, which can incur further legal costs for both parties.

We recommend seeking legal advice if you’re unsure about your position or facing a claim for divorce costs.

Help with divorce costs

If you are on a low income or receive certain benefits, you may be eligible for help with court fees through the government’s Help with Fees scheme. More information is available on GOV.UK

Your questions answered

A typical fixed fee divorce takes between 6 to 8 months, depending on how quickly each stage is processed by the court and whether your spouse responds in a timely manner. Our team will manage all timelines carefully and keep you updated throughout, so you know exactly what to expect and when.

There may be occasions when we advise you to delay stages because of financial consequences.

Yes. We offer a similar fixed fee service for the dissolution of civil partnerships. The process is very similar to divorce, and we’ll guide you through it with the same level of care and support.

Our fixed fee covers the legal work involved in the divorce process itself. It does not include:

  • The court fee payable to HMCTS (currently £612)
  • Any legal advice or negotiations regarding financial settlements or child arrangements
  • Additional work required if your spouse contests the divorce or does not cooperate

We’ll always be clear with you upfront about any additional costs before any extra work is carried out.

The first step is to get in touch with our Family Law team. We will set up a telephone call  to discuss your situation, answer your questions, and help you decide if our fixed fee service is right for you. If you choose to proceed, we’ll then ask for:

  • Some basic personal and marriage details
  • A photo or scan of your marriage certificate
  • Your consent at each stage of the process

From there, we’ll take care of everything else.
