The Asbestos team tackles Fitness for February in support of our partner charity Mesothelioma UK

This February, our Asbestos team have gotten stuck in supporting our partner charity Mesothelioma UK’s ‘Fitness for February’ campaign by walking and running 40km. This annual event encourages people to embrace going out, exploring, exercising, and spreading the word about mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases whether it’s walking, cycling, running or swimming.

Mesothelioma is heart-breaking terminal cancer that affects thousands of people each year. Each donation can make a difference in supporting victims and their families through a devastating time in their lives with the latest treatments, equipment, and further support staff. Mesothelioma UK devised Fit for Feb to encourage people to keep pushing through and getting out there despite the dark nights and poor weather over February.

To embrace Fit for Feb, all the offices got involved, with over 20 team members across Cardiff, London, Southampton, Manchester and Plymouth exploring their respective cities and documenting it. The team in Manchester enjoyed a lovely lunchtime walk today around the canals in Castlefield. The Cardiff Asbestos team embarked on a 15km walk around Cardiff Bay and surrounding areas. Senior Associate in the Manchester office, Anna Burns, also completed a 5-mile run in aid of the campaign.

However, it wasn’t only the Asbestos Team out in the cold – the Industrial Disease team has also been raising money for Asthma and Lung UK.  They walked the Pontsticill walk (20km), to highlight the A+L campaign ‘Breath is Life.’ Asthma and Lung UK is fighting to change that, and stands up for everyone’s right to breathe. As a charity, they have tripled public investment in respiratory disease research and provide year-on-year support to those living with lung conditions (especially in England where prescriptions still pose a massive financial burden). The Industrial Disease team is proud to support them in the work that they do, having seen first-hand the hardship that living with a lung condition brings.

Winter can be an incredibly tough time for those living with respiratory diseases, and 1 in every 5 people in the UK will have a lung condition in their lifetime. Those that do live with lung conditions are often overlooked and left behind.

Both teams have worked thoroughly to ensure asbestos-related conditions and lung conditions are not forgotten about. If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating to these worthwhile charities.
