£300K funding approval for green spaces at innovative health and wellbeing development in Bridgend


Funding approval has been granted by Bridgend County Borough Council to pay for a host of green features at Sunnyside Wellness Village – the innovative development which Hugh James has been advising on from the start.

The cash injectionof£315,268will help pay for the planting of around150 new trees, a communal growing area, natural play area, and the protection and cultivation of existing trees and other green areas.

Sunnyside is an integrated healthcare and housing development, designed to support community care and wellbeing, including for frail and older people, vulnerable young people, and those with learning difficulties.

Located on the site of the old Sunnyside council offices and magistrates court in Bridgend, it will consist of 59 affordable homes, a healthcare centre with consultation and treatment rooms, GP practice, specialist dental unit, and pharmacy, and associated works including landscaping and infrastructure. It has been designed to the WELL Building standard, which puts people’s health and wellness at the centre of building design. The development will feature air filters to improve indoor air quality and the materials used in the build will not contain any harmful chemicals.

The£23mscheme is being developed by Linc Cymru Housing Association in partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, and Bridgend County Borough.

Lawyers from Hugh James’ commercial property, procurement, and construction teams have been providing specialist advice to Linc Cymru throughout the project – including advising on the site assembly and the collaboration agreement between Linc and Abertawe Bro Morgannwg.
