Richard is a Partner and head of the asbestos litigation team. Richard specialises in asbestos-related disease claims and has recovered millions of pounds in compensation for his clients. Ranked by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500, Richard is described as ‘extremely knowledgeable and personable’ and ‘wonderful to work with’. Richard also sits on the advisory board of the Mesothelioma UK Research Centre.

The asbestos litigation group is one of the very largest specialist teams in the UK and assist those affected by mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and diffuse pleural thickening. The asbestos group work closely with asbestos charities and support groups to include Mesothelioma UK, HASAG Asbestos Disease Support, Asbestos Awareness Support Cymru (AASC), South West Asbestos Support Awareness Group (SWASAG) and East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group (EEA-PSG).

Richard has a national reputation for asbestos related disease work and has specialised in asbestos related disease claims for over 15 years. Richard regularly appears in the media to raise awareness of asbestos related illnesses and works closely with medical professionals and charities which support those affected by asbestos related disease. Richard regularly provides training to specialist medical teams across the country and speaks at events accredited by the Royal College of Nurses and Royal College of Physicians.

• Settlement of a complex low level asbestos exposure claim for £750,000 where the claimant was exposed to asbestos via contaminated overalls.

Richard became a partner at Hugh James in 2017 after joining in 2014. He qualified as a solicitor in 2008.
