Asbestosis settlement secured within six months following instruction

Mr P worked for Ashwell & Nesbit initially as an apprentice before coming a heating engineer throughout most of the 1950’s and then following national service for a further two years. During these periods he was exposed to asbestos dust and fibres.

Mr P spent the majority of his time in boiler houses fitting or renewing pipework and boilers. Whilst doing this, he worked alongside laggers who were lagging the boilers and pipework that had been fitted with asbestos.

When he was renewing old pipework or boilers Mr P would also have to knock off the old asbestos lagging in order to get at sections of pipework for replacement and at lagging on massive boilers.

There was constant asbestos dust in the air where Mr P was working, and as this was mostly in confined spaces there was nowhere for the dust to go and would be covered in dust by the end of the day.

Mr P then worked for W G Cannon & Sons Ltd as a heating engineer until the early 1970’s. Mr P continued to be exposed to asbestos in the same manner described above.

Many years later these exposures led to Mr P being diagnosed with asbestosis, and following this diagnosis Mr P instructed Hugh James Solicitors.

On obtaining independent medical evidence this diagnosis was estimated to have caused a 35% respiratory disability.

Less than six months following initial instructions Hugh James secured a settlement for Mr P in the gross sum of £70,000.00.
