Kevin McCarthy is a Partner with Hugh James and has worked with the firm for more than 27 years.
Kevin has over 16 years’ experience in pursuing personal injury claims, group actions and high profile workplace disease litigation, with specialism in occupational noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) claims.
Kevin continues to lead the team specialising in the high profile noise induced hearing loss litigation against British Telecom which has resulted in successful settlements on behalf of thousands of current and former BT engineers. Kevin is also a key part of the senior team in the development of military NIHL claims.
Due to his experience and expertise in noise induced hearing loss claims, Kevin is often asked by third parties for his views and has given radio and television interviews about the problems associated with noise induced hearing loss and tinnitus.
Kevin also has specialism in costs litigation and took a lead role on behalf of the claimant in the widely reported High Court case of Dalton v British Telecommunications  on the issue of whether Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) was a disease and not an injury for the purposes of calculating the success fee in a bill of costs. Kevin also leads the ongoing detailed assessments and costs negotiations of numerous individual BT NIHL cases.
Kevin was appointed partner in 2016. Before this, he qualified in 2000 (Fellow Institute of Legal Executives). Kevin joined the firm in 1991 and advanced through associate (2010) and senior associate (2012) before taking up his role as partner.
