Neil is a consultant in the gaming and betting team at Hugh James. He has been involved in the gaming industry for almost 20 years, initially with Astra Games and then following its acquisition in 2004, within the Novomatic Group where he worked extensively with the Hugh James team. In his role at Hugh James, Neil provides strategic and guidance to the team around sector-specific issues as well as direct support to clients who benefit from his considerable industry expertise.
Neil held the role of Group CFO of Novomatic UK (NUK) from 2012 until 2020. Along with the Group CEO, he was instrumental in the growth of NUK from a single company with a turnover of £20m to a fully diversified group with a turnover of over £300m and 3,500 employees, through organic and acquisitive growth. Neil fully controlled and directed all M&A activity of the NUK Group, which involved a number of significant high-value acquisitions and disposals (the largest individual transactions were in excess of £100m).
Neil was heavily involved in devising and implementing the strategy for NUK, responsible for the full financial internal and external reporting of the NUK group and was senior accounting officer for taxation purposes. He has also held gaming licences or approvals in a number of jurisdictions including the UK, Switzerland, Canada and New Jersey in the US.
Neil qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1986, whilst training with EY. He is an experienced commercial financial professional having worked in a variety of enterprises from start-up companies to large-scale multi-national Groups, in both the public and private sectors.
